About Yossif – Contact

Hi, call me “Yossif.”

(It’s pronounced like Joseph with a Y)

I’ve lost over 100 pounds. Read about my weight loss story here.

Check out my pictures here. Check out my guest post at DJ Foodie here.

Back around 2007, I reached my worst weight of about 300lbs. I was fat, sick, miserable and weak. I wanted to change but I didn’t know how.

Now, I’m about 190 pounds and healthier/happier than ever.

I want to change lives like mine has changed. One of my biggest goals right now is to change at least one person’s life for the better. I’m hoping this website will make that happen. I once lived in a pit of complete despair, knowing very little of how the world worked and suffering greatly because of it. I was once at the mercy of circumstance and ignorance. With determination and sheer will to find the truth, I clawed my way out of the pit. My life now burns with a newfound passion.

About “The Itch”

I have an obsession to learn about everything scientific. EVERYTHING. I call it “the itch.” I’m always itching to learn something new. Some people like to read about sports. Some people like to watch stock prices. Some people like hearing about celebrities. I don’t care about that stuff.

Me? I’m obsessed with learning how things work. I want to know about how everything works. It’s just who I am. My preferred niche is health and the human body.

I’ve spent years reading about health and wellness. I’ve read about things that most people have never heard of. Using that knowledge, I transformed my body and my life for the better. As a scientist, I am constantly looking for answers, trying to examine the facts, conducting experiments, trying to find the truth behind everything.

Health, exercise, and weight loss are no exception! I read as much as I can and try to make connections and seek out patterns.

Everything is like a giant spider web, it’s all connected.

In all my research and experimentations, I’ve found many answers and I have proven many theories. I use personal experimentation to find out for myself if a theory is crazy, or maybe, just MAYBEit will work.

And it did.

My education:

I’m not a doctor, I’m not a PhD, I’m not a specialist. I’m just a natural born scientist. Curiosity is my education and motivation.

My personal specialty is delving into new topics, doing independent research, finding new info and trying to absorb as much as possible (even with my limited overall knowledge.) I’m a true “Jack of all trades.

I try to seek out people and sources who can back up information with facts, figures, examples, experiments and research.  I question everything because I want the truth.

No one has it 100% right, but there is a nugget of truth to every side.

I have an natural understanding of multiple aspects of science: chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and even psychology. Learning how they all fit together is the key.

Why George Carlin?

George Carlin is my hero. I honestly believe he’s one of the greatest men who ever lived. He makes me laugh until my face hurts, he makes me think critically, and I miss him terribly. His no BS approach has always resonated with me. You’ll see a lot of his influence in my work and ideals.

Simply put, I get angry at bullshyt! Bad information makes people fat, weak, and stupid. I want to dispel myths, disprove conventional knowledge, and teach people how to change their lives.

My faults:

I’m not saying I’m perfect by any means. I still have weaknesses. I’ll gladly admit I’m just a normal person:

  • I drink more than I’d like to admit… I’ve reduced it drastically over the past few years, but it’s still an issue sometimes.
  • I don’t exercise as much as I’d like to. Time and motivation are generally the limiting factors. I’m also slowly learning proper form from a coach, and you can’t rush decent form. I’d rather slowly perfect my form than get injured!
  • I have bouts of sheer laziness where I have no desire to write or deal with anything technical. This is currently why I don’t post as much as I could… I’m pretty sure this is due to a chemical imbalance, but I have not figured it out yet. Seems to be related to a lack of sleep and/or food intake. Fixing this issue is my biggest priority. More as I discover it.

Despite these and a few others, I’m 100 times better than I used to be. Making baby steps in the right direction is the only way to become the person you want to be.

Other stuff about me:

I don’t really like to give out too many details about my personal life, but here’s some tidbits:

My day job is a scientific one. When I have free time, I spend it reading/blogging about health and fitness. It’s both a hobby and an obsession. Otherwise, I’m hanging out with my girlfriend or doing something with my friends and family. I go to the gym regularly and I like to play a sport here and there.

Despite my namesake, I’m pretty relaxed and focused. I like to meditate whenever I get the chance. I’d rather be in control of my anger and use it for good.

I believe my life as it is now was all because of one terrible day when everything changed. This one day is when I was forced to change my life forever. If enough people ask, I’ll write about it someday.

Otherwise, I’m always trying to improve and learn new things. Blogging helps me keep track and inform others about my discoveries.

The blog itself is still somewhat in it’s infancy and I’m still toying around with things like themes and layouts. Let me know if you have any technical suggestions to help me out.

Constructive criticism is appreciated, but mindless trolling is not appreciated. Either help me learn something, correct me if you can, but don’t be a dick about it. I’m here to learn and educate.

So that’s me. That’s Yossif in a nutshell.
